Colorado Making “Zero Deaths” Policy a Priority in 2015

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper plans to address the media Monday afternoon to discuss the state joining the national initiative of reducing traffic deaths to an annual average of zero. It's all part of a nationwide plan set up six years ago by the Governors Highway Safety Association called "Toward Zero Deaths".

Part of the big picture plan for Colorado in joining the national effort is engineering changes in the local roadways as well as public safety awareness efforts. The Governor will also be looking changes to emergency service response to speed up medical assistance if it is needed at an accident.

The U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety issued a report earlier this year touting the strides we have made nationwide with the amount of traffic deaths that occur. They stated that the chances of a driver dying in a crash in a late model car or light truck fell by more than a third over three years. Nine car models had zero deaths per million registered vehicles.
