Losing weight is a goal that many set at the beginning of each year, and some succeed; some try to lose some weight but miss out on their goals, and others give up instantly. Weight loss and looking a certain way has always been a big deal in our culture, and sadly some feel pressured to look a certain way. Losing weight can be done in multiple ways, but some ways are expensive and can take a toll on your bank account. In Colorado, many enjoy being outdoors hiking, running, and biking, and all of these help with weight loss. When it comes to losing weight in Colorado, how much does it cost, and how much should you budget to do so?

It isn't cheap to lose weight when you account for buying equipment if you need it at home, protein shakes or weight loss products, shots or pills if you go that route, and potentially new clothes once the weight loss begins. According to a recent study by trytrimi.com, 7 out of 10 Americans have spent money on weight loss products or services in the last year. On average, they spend $116 a month on these services, which adds up to $1,392 a year. Of these, nearly 70% of people, only around 20% actually budget for weight loss programs and products. That means many are spending money that they did not plan for and are likely wondering why their bank accounts are so low. This may also be why 34% have had to put off or delay a program due to cost.

With people spending so much on weight loss, the question becomes: what are they spending it on to help them? 37% are spending their money on gym memberships, 36% are buying supplements, 23% on exercise equipment, 21% on fitness apps, and 17% on prescription weight loss medication. To afford these things, 3 out of 10 people have cut expenses elsewhere to afford their weight-loss items. 26% cut dining out, 15% cut out entertainment, 12% cut alcohol, which alone would help with weight loss, 11% stopped traveling, and 10% stopped spending on clothing, which is good since they may need a new wardrobe after losing weight.
