Rockies bring back Jordan Beck from injured list, but immediately option him to AAA

MINNEAPOLIS — Since the Rockies placed Jordan Beck on the injured list with a hamstring problem, they’ve promoted fellow outfielder Cole Carrigg from AAA Albuquerque, and he has delivered to the tune of a .900 OPS over 69 plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Troy Johnston and Jake McCarthy have continued to produce, while Mickey Moniak recently returned from the injured list and Tyler Freeman continues to post a solid line, hitting .429 over the last week.

Translation: Even though Beck is ready to return, there’s no room at the major-league inn for him. Thus, the Rockies on Sunday decided to option Beck to Albuquerque upon his recovery from the hamstring injury

Beck was an everyday player for the Rox last year, logging a .258/.317/.416 line in a campaign defined by power explosions. He hit 16 homers in 2025 — but five of them came in a three-day stretch in April of that year.

Then came the 2026 campaign. Beck was in the starting lineup in 13 of the Rockies’ first 24 games this season, but hit .167 and posted a .482 OPS in that span. He had just eight starts to his name after that.

By May, Beck was primarily working when the Rockies faced left-handed pitching. To that end, he notched a .250/.286/.500 May line — although that came on just 21 plate appearances, offering a hint of promise amid an overall .183./.227/.305 line for the campaign.

That’s why manager Warren Schaeffer emphasized the need for Beck to receive at-bats — and a specific type of them — from this upcoming stint with the Isotopes.

“At-bats that he hasn’t had in a long time. Everyday at-bats — against right-handers, specifically,” Schaeffer said.

“He just needs to go down there and play well.”

But given the logjam the Rockies have in the outfield — and the continued stellar play of Zac Veen and Charlie Condon, both of whom entered Sunday’s play with OPS figures north of .940 — it might take more than just that for Beck to get back into the lineup. Brenton Doyle remains on the injured list, as well.

Sending Beck down is a logical decision — and one that could show a turning of the page for the Rockies in the outfield if he can’t nudge his way back into the mix quickly. The Rox have options and depth out there, and for now, Beck is out of the major-league loop.
