Rockies’ Ethan Holliday featured in new MLB docuseries

You can’t watch Ethan Holliday play baseball right now. But you can watch what it takes to get him to The Show.

MLB and NBC Sports dropped the first episode of “Road to the Show” on Peacock on Wednesday, a five-part docuseries following six of the game’s top prospects — and the Rockies’ crown jewel is among them.

Holliday, the No. 17 prospect in baseball per MLB Pipeline, is currently sidelined after undergoing season-ending surgery on a stress fracture in his left foot in early June. He’d been raking at Single-A Fresno before the injury, slashing .262/.395/.557 with nine homers and 32 RBI in 33 games as one of the youngest hitters in the California League.

The 19-year-old shortstop — son of seven-time All-Star Matt, younger brother of Orioles infielder Jackson — was the fourth overall pick in last year’s draft and signed for a high school-record $9 million bonus.

Now sidelined, the docuseries gives Holliday a different kind of spotlight. The show chronicles the pressure, sacrifice and family dynamics behind baseball’s next generation, narrated by baseball content creator Dan Sarmiento.

He’s joined by five other featured players: Brewers shortstop Jesús Made (MLB’s No. 1 prospect), White Sox outfielder Braden Montgomery, Phillies right-hander Gage Wood, and college stars Roch Cholowsky (UCLA) and Justin Lebron (Alabama) — both expected to go in the first round of the MLB Draft on July 11.

The series is timed to complement NBC’s live coverage of the draft and the All-Star Futures Game on July 12. New episodes drop July 10, July 19, July 26 and Aug. 2.
